Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) HECMA Program Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Basic and Survival Chain Early HELP and call 999 Early CPR AED Advanced Care Ch.2 L5 28/09/2011 PPT prepared by : Nahed Yaghi

Key Terms :- Victim: A person, who has been attacked, injured or killed as the result of a crime, a disease, an accident, etc. Survival: The state of continuing to alive or exist, after despite difficulty or danger. Tilt: To move, or make something move, into a position with one side or end higher than the other Rhythm: Strong regular repeated pattern of sounds or movements. Child :- From 1 year up to the onset of puberty Infant :- Up to 1 year Adult :Above the onset of puberty . Ch.2 L5 28/09/2011 PPT prepared by : Nahed Yaghi

Objectives :- Review survival elements. Explain the importance of chest compression. Define the importance of opening the air way passage and breathing. What is an AED Ch.2 L5 28/09/2011 PPT prepared by : Nahed Yaghi

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Basic and Survival Chain Introduction :- Life-threatening emergencies can happen in any school, at any time. Result of ….. pre-existing health Problems, sudden cardiac arrest, allergic reactions, heatstroke, trauma, among other causes. What is the priority in treating any collapsed persons ? Establish an open air way and maintain breathing and circulation A defibrillator can deliver a controlled electrical shock to restore a normal heartbeat. Ch.2 L5 28/09/2011 PPT prepared by : Nahed Yaghi

Survival Elements Factors :- EARLY HELP CALL 999 EARLY CPR ADVANCED CARE EARLY AED Ch.2 L5 28/09/2011 PPT prepared by : Nahed Yaghi

CPR Sequences :-CAB CPR Sequences Circulation Airway Breathing CPR Sequences Ch.2 L5 28/09/2011 PPT prepared by : Nahed Yaghi

C:Chest Compression To Maintain Circulation Child and Adult heart landmark (center of the sternum/midline between the nipples ) Infant heart land mark ( Just below nipple midline Infant Adult and Child Heart Landmark Ch.2 L5 28/09/2011 PPT prepared by : Nahed Yaghi

C:Chest Compression Pulse landmarks Carotid Pulse (Child and Adult ) Brachial Pulse ( Infant ) Ch.2 L5 28/09/2011 PPT prepared by : Nahed Yaghi

C:Chest Compression Circulation Vital Organ : Heart, brain and Lungs Effective Chest Compression ( Push Hard , fast and allow full chest recoil at least 100 comp./mint with minimal interruptions ) See the video for more Explanation ..\..\..\..\Video\Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation - CPR - 3D Medical Animation - YouTube.flv If the heart stops beating , blood does not circulate through the body as a result vital organs . To ensure that the blood is adequately supplied with oxygen, should do effective chest compression with or not rescue breath. Ch.2 L5 28/09/2011 PPT prepared by : Nahed Yaghi

A: Airway (Maintain Open airway) Head Tilt Chin Lift procedure An unconscious victim airway may become narrowed or blocked . This is due to muscular control being lost .allowing the tongue to fall back and block the airway See video. .\..\..\..\Video\ASHI CPR and AED - Opening an Airway for CPR - YouTube.flv Ch.2 L5 28/09/2011 PPT prepared by : Nahed Yaghi

B:Breathing for a Victim:- Advanced breathing ( Bag Resuscitation Mask ) Mouth to Mouth Mouth to Mask The air reaches the air sac (alveoli) in the lungs, and oxygen is then transferred to the tiny blood vessels within the lungs . When you remove your mouth from the victim’s mouth, the chest falls and air containing waste product is exhaled. The air we exhale contains about 16 per cent oxygen (5 per cent less than in the air we inhaled) in addition to a small amount of carbon dioxide. Exhaled breath therefore contains enough oxygen to supply another person with oxygen –and keep him alive – when it forced into the victim’s lung during rescue breathing. Ch.2 L5 28/09/2011 PPT prepared by : Nahed Yaghi

Look for Chest Movement and rise B: Breathing for a Victim Look for Chest Movement and rise Ch.2 L5 28/09/2011 PPT prepared by : Nahed Yaghi

Restoring Heart Rhythm AED (Automated External Defibrillator) CPR and the use of AEDs by public safety first responders are recommended to increase survival rates for out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest. Electrical Shock to the heart See the video for AED application , L6 Video\AED video\AED - YouTube.flv Ch.2 L5 28/09/2011 PPT prepared by : Nahed Yaghi
