Technology Usage as It Relates To Age Groups Advanced Computer Applications in the Classroom Lester H. Wilson Table of Contents: Hypothesis Survey Questions Survey Process and Data Collection Graphs Indicating Results Conclusion

Hours spent each day More than 21 to 2Less than 1Never Age Under to to to to 67 Hypothesis: I feel that the usage of technology correlates to the age of the person. Younger persons have a tendency to use social networking and play video games more than older persons. Survey Question 1: Over the past year, how much time did you spend on video games each day on average (includes television and computer)?

Social networking usage More than 106 to 101 to 5Never Age Under to to to to 67 Question 2: Over the past year, how often did you use social networking each day (including texting, Facebook, and Twitter)? Data Collection: At Reasor’s grocery I surveyed a minimum of ten persons in each age bracket. Of those brackets that exceeded ten I selected the first ten respondents. After the age of 18, I used 12 year increments on age.

HYPOTHESIS: The use of technology is age related. Younger age groups have a tendency to spend more time using technology. Over the past year, how much time did you spend on video games each day on average (includes television and computer)? Hours Spent Each Day More Than 2Hours 1 to 2 Hours Less Than 1 HourNever Age Groups Under

Over the past year, how often did you use social networking each day on average (includes texting, Facebook and Twitter)? Social Network UsageMore than 106 to 101 to 5Never Under

Conclusion: The survey confirmed my hypothesis. The youngest group played video games more than older groups. And was consistent. Social networking was used more by the youngest group than the oldest group. However, the trend was not consistent throughout the age groups. The middle two groups did not confirm my hypothesis. Lester H. Wilson
