Cincinnati State Spring 2016 College Credit Plus (CCP) Advising Information

Mission The mission of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College is to provide student-focused, accessible, quality technical and general education, academic transfer, experiential and co-operative education and workforce development.

Campus Locations Clifton Campus (See page 3 in workbook for Quick Reference List) Cincinnati State’s first campus is located in the classic, urban metropolitan area of Clifton. Here you will find most of the College’s offered courses, student and administrative services, library, athletic and recreation facilities. 3 Buildings: Main Building; Health Professions Building (HPB); Advanced Technology and Learning Center (ATLC) Middletown (See page 3 in workbook for Quick Reference List) Our newest campus is the only community college campus in Butler County. It is located in downtown Middletown. West Campus Cincinnati State also operates West Campus in Harrison, Ohio. At this facility, conveniently located near I-74, students may take most of the Aviation Maintenance Technology courses and Welding classes, along with other common courses. Workforce Development Center The Workforce Development Center (WDC) at Cincinnati State provides career training and high-value workforce education at its facility in Evendale. WDC offers courses as part of College curricula as well as customized training for government agencies and non-profits, companies of all sizes, and public sector organizations. ~~Distance Learning

Important Dates Chart Highlights (See page 4 in workbook for Corresponding Dates) First and Last Day of Semesters Adding, Dropping or Withdrawing from courses No Show Policy Grades College Closed

Attendance (See page 5 in workbook for School Closing Information) Cincinnati State calendar vs. High School calendar –Holiday closings –Inclement weather closings Overall attendance policies per instructor –Located within syllabus –Communicate with instructor to discuss how missing class may negatively impact your grade

Benefits of CCP Students who participate in CCP: Earn college credit and high school credit Earn a year’s worth of credit at Cincinnati State prior to graduation from high school Engage with college professors Have access to college courses not available in their high schools Have access to college resources such as the library, tutoring, and activities

Risks of CCP Although classes where a “D” or better are earned will transfer to a public institution within the state, the student must check with the institution of interest to see how the classes will transfer within their specific major interest. Grades received through CCP are reflected on both the college and high school transcripts. Low grades may negatively impact high school, college admission and financial aid opportunities. Students may be liable for fees if they do not follow the college’s policies regarding dropping/withdrawing from courses, etc. (refer to Imp. Dates) There may be mature course content in college level classes.

Tips for Success (Refer to pages 6-9 in workbook) Take pride in your education Attend classes; arrive to class and complete assignments on time Review syllabus and other content in Blackboard/class handouts Read ahead and have questions prepared to best learn the material Use a planner, keep records and take notes (See pages in workbook) Communicate with instructors Seek assistance when needed Pick up books one week before classes begin Prepare to be a standout in your field Maintain ethical behavior Cell phones on silent; no texting You and other students are here to reach a goal – What’s going to motivate you? How you represent yourself will impact academic success Violation of the Student Code of Conduct could result in dismissal Review College Catalog – catalog.cincinnatistate.edu

High School vs College High School Most of your classes are arranged for you You may study 0-2 hours weekly for a class Teachers are often free to speak before, during or after class Grades are given for most assigned work College You arrange your own schedule with help from your academic advisor You need to study 2-3 hours outside of class for each hour of class Instructors expect and want you to attend scheduled office hours Grades may not be provided for all assigned work

High School vs College… In college, students: Are expected to take responsibility for what they do and don’t do, as well as the consequences for their actions Need to read the assigned materials Must think through and apply what they have learned Taken from:
