Annie Chen is a tenth grade teacher in NYC  Students studied how genes work and how they can be altered for medical benefit Goals for students:  become more successful 21 st century leaders Uses the Project Learning Bicycle as a teaching model

Four Project Phases:  Define  Plan  Do  Review Students gain skills in:  creativity & collaboration The students are most successful when they are taught how to learn as well as what to learn

 Deeply engages students in learning  Goes beyond memorization to meaningful understanding  Large learning gains for students with wide ranges of learning styles and backgrounds
