Microbes - Any minute, simple, single-celled form of life, especially one that causes disease.
Microbes are present in almost every environment, in the soil, the air, even animals and plants. They are found all over our bodies, on our skin, in our mouth and in our stomach. Most are harmless, even beneficial. Microbes that live in our stomach help us to digest our food.
They help create medicine to fight off sickness. They are also helpful in the bodies function of protecting the body from bacterial diseases.
They are only one of the causes of infections in the body. Negative Effects of Microorganisms Can cause food poisoning in a person who eats infected food. Washing your hands and using hand sanitizer kills bacteria. Make sure your food is always cooked and handled safely.

With a generation time of twenty minutes, and with no limiting factors, a single bacterium, with a biomass of only l0 -12 g, would produce 22 x tons of biomass times the mass of our planet - within two days. In other terms, a bacterium could, in a non-restricting environment, produce times its own biomass of protein alone in a single day.
