Science with the Stars!!! Starring: Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Britney Spears, Brangelina (and family), Simon Cowell, and a special Mystery Guest !

>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> Purpose Why are you performing the experiment? What question would you like answered? Phrase question so it is specific and therefore able to be tested! Which brand of gum is the best?  –How can we test EVERY brand of gum? –What is meant by “the best?” Which brand of gum, Bubbalicious or Bazooka, blows the biggest bubbles? –Able to be tested and answered definitively! Oh I get it! So, for example, my purpose question could be: Do I sell more albums when I’m blonde or brunette?

>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> Hypothesis Educated Guess Based on your prior knowledge and experience, what do you think will happen? Example: –I think Bazooka gum will blow the biggest bubbles because I chew it a lot at home and have blown some huge bubbles with it! It is unacceptable not to make a hypothesis or write “I don’t know.” We hypothesize that we’ll sell more albums this year than last - because, let’s face it, girls love us!

>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> Materials List of objects you will use to perform your experiment Be specific enough so that a complete stranger could repeat your experiment if necessary Example: –Two packs of gum (one Bubbalicious and one Bazooka), timer, ruler with measurements in inches. Materials Needed to Be a Pop Star: recording contract, makeup artist, hair stylist, microphone…

>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> Procedure The exact description and order of the steps taken to perform the experiment Again, be so specific that a complete stranger could understand and repeat the experiment if necessary Example: –1. Unwrap and chew 1 piece of Bubbalicious bubble gum for 30 seconds (use timer). –2. Blow bubble as large as possible. –3. Using ruler, partner will measure diameter of bubble to nearest tenth of an inch. –4. Repeat steps 1-3 with 1 piece of Bazooka bubble gum. –5. Compare diameters of bubbles blown. Procedure: 1.Adopt a kid. 2.Adopt 2 more. 3.Give birth to a child. 4.Give birth to 2 more. 5.Repeat steps 1– 4.

>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> Results What did you observe? Be specific; give measurements if appropriate. Be OBJECTIVE – do not draw any conclusions or give your opinion here Example: –While Bubbalicious gum can produce a bubble with a diameter of 3.7 inches, Bazooka gum can produce a bubble with a diameter of 4.2 inches. What results when you pair people who can’t sing with people who can? A hit TV show!

>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> Conclusion Explain the significance of your results Answer the purpose question Example: –Bazooka blows bigger bubbles (by 0.5 inches) than Bubbalicious bubble gum. I conclude that if you study and apply these terms, you’ll be a master scientist in no time!
