FINISHING THE NOVEL & 40 NOTECARD GOAL American Lit Week 9

Am Lit DO NOW 3/9/15 Take a clicker and sit with a cleared desk ready for vocab quiz. If you pre-tested, take vocab for ch. 6-7 and try your luck at guessing their meaning.

Success Today Means 3/9 Students review their comprehension of vocabulary words, and chapter 4-5 of The Great Gatsby. Students practice using context clues and decoding to guess at vocab word meanings. Students review the rubric for the timed writing tomorrow and finish gathering any notes they plan on using. ELITE students will work ahead toward 40 total notecards this week & finishing ch. 6-7 by Friday.

Am Lit DO NOW 3/10/15 Turn in any Do Nows you have remaining. Take a RUBRIC Read the RUBRIC Think about the RUBRIC Take out loose leaf paper, your graphic organizer, and your novel. Sit quietly, get in the zone to focus this hour. It’s game time.

Success Today Means Students demonstrate their ability to use evidence to show a relationship between how Fitzgerald uses setting to develop his characters. You know you are successful when you complete a 5 paragraph essay that focuses mostly on the body paragraphs- each one focused on one character 9or family), successfully showing the relationships and explaining any evidence used during the analysis.

Am Lit DO NOW 3/12/15 If you rewrite your timed essay, turn it in to your period’s basket on chromecart. If you did not do a timed writing, get a pass to come take it during 7 th or 8 th pd today. If you would like to stay after school today to do it, please confirm with a teacher who stays. Quiz tomorrow, so TEST YOURSELF today: without looking at notes, define any of the following: Traversed, contingency, euphemism, libertine, scrutiny.

Success Today Means 3/12/15 Students finish reading chapters 6-7. You know you are successful when you have written answers to your study guide questions. Students continue toward the weekly research goal of 40 notecards from at least 4 sources. Students study vocab for quiz tomorrow. True success today means getting the 5point dippy for bell to bell focus. Also, remember a delicious Italian meal and day off of school is the reward for students who pass their reading checks.
