The Ocean’s 3 Light Zones Hey, who turned off the light?

Sunlight Zone Surface to 600 feet deep Top layer, near the surface. Photosynthesis occurs here 90 % of all marine life lives here Most fish & plankton live here.

Twilight Zone Only a small amount of light More pressure and colder No plant life Only a few animals who have adapted to little light can survive here 600 feet to 3000 feet deep

Midnight Zone Below 3000 feet No light 90% of ocean is in this zone Extreme water pressure Freezing Temperatures Not exactly cozy to most!

Life in the “Zone” aka the freak show !

Phytoplankton Plantlike organisms Produce much of the world’s oxygen through photosynthesis. Act as the base of the ocean’s ecosystem & food chain. Live in the sunlight zone.

Jelly Fish in the Twilight Zone Bioluminescence These creatures make their own light!

Hatchetfish In the Twilight Zone Humboldt Squid

Gulper Eel Midnight Zone

Hairy Angler Fish – Midnight Zone

Tripod Fish Beyond the Midnight Zone in the Abyss

Vampire Squid Ha! Ha! I want your blood!!!
