John Vizzini A Raisin in The Sun and The 60’s

Martin Luther King Jr. Entered Morehouse College at 15 in 1944 Wanted the be like his dad and became a Baptist minister Was chosen to lead the Montgomery Bus Boycott became head of SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference)- now a full time civil rights leader king organized the march on Washington; speaker after speaker demanded an end to the Jim Crow Laws; King made famous I have a dream speech here April 4 th, 1968 King was assassinated How it Relates Youngers pushed to get a better house Both pushed for better lives for blacks

Segregated Housing  Blacks lived in poorer neighborhoods  Higher crime rates and cheaper houses in these neighborhoods  Denied adequate housing because of color  Whites would do anything to keep blacks out of their neighborhood How this Relates The Lindner’s tried to bribe the youngers out of buying the new house Youngers lived in poor little apartment “rooms for refined colored adults”

My Cultural Background  Italian and Polish  We have a family dinner every Sunday  Because I'm Italian I like Italian food  The youngers take pride in their cultures and so do I

Personal goals  Make a lot of Money- I want to be able to support my family alone and still have money to spare  Go to college- I want to go to college and get a good degree  Raise a good family- I want to live happily with my family and live on

Conclusion  Overall, you should do anything to achieve your dreams and goals  Never let anyone change who you are  Don’t let anyone tell you how to live your life
