What Is Play? “ A function of the ego, attempt to synchronize the bodily & social process with the self “ ( Erikson, 1950 ) “ Play is seen more in youngsters than it is in adult, & peaks during periods of maximal cortical development “ ( Chick, 1998 ) “ Play is essentially a separate occupation “ ( Roger Caillois ) - Any activity which is intrinsically motivated freely choosen non literal actively engaged pleasurable

HISTORY OF CHINESE WHISPERS Originating in China Invented somewhere else, like the U.S and then given the name “ Chinese Whispers” because of a associations people have with Chinese culture, language, etc. The game has many other names such as telephone game, broken telephone, crazy telephone, operator ,grapevine, whispers down the lane and pass it down.

AN INRODUCTION TO THE GAME Players Unlimited Age range 5 & up Set up time < 5 minutes Playing time Depends on the numbers of players Skill required Listening, whispering

HOW TO PLAY First, choose a group of players. The players line up in a line with some space between them. The first person chooses a phrase or sentence. He/she have to memorize the phrase or sentence in a given time. 5) Then, he/she has to whispers it to the next, ensuring that no- one else hears it. 6) The next person whispers what they think they heard to the next person and so the phrase passes down the line. 7) The last person to get the whispers announces it to the group and then compares it to the original.

CHINESE WHISPERS

Example messages Amanda goes to a shop. She goes by taking bus No.12. She buys potatoes, cucumber, tomatoes, chilies, and carrots. Total amount of the things is RM 18.25. She pays the cashier RM 50. The cashier returns RM 31.75 to her. Simon goes to sunshine’s playground with his friends. He wants to try all the equipments at there. He wants to try trampolines, see-saw,& rockers, play tunnels , slides, swings, climbing frames, ropes & rope ladders & also the sand pit and equipment. Simon hide in the tunnels when he plays hide-and-seek with his friends.

THIS GAME PROMOTES ALL AREAS OF A CHILD DEVELOPMENT BENEFIT THIS GAME PROMOTES ALL AREAS OF A CHILD DEVELOPMENT Language and Communication -learn to listen attentively -enhance their communication skill -improving their vocabulary -practice pronunciation skills 2) Cognitive -improving their memory skill -need a lot of attention and concentration 3) Moral -obey the rules -be more discipline

4) Emotional -for fun or entertainment 5) Social -having turns-taking, sharing and cooperation between them 6) Physical -balance their body while standing in a line -gross motor skills- coordination of neck and head muscle
