Purpose We wanted to know how students feel about their teachers, specifically Mr. Spencer, Mrs. Davis, Mr. Baird, Mrs. Squire, and Ms. Lund. Note: we are not comparing these teachers to each other.

Questions Basically, we asked students if they liked these teachers, their grading system, and if they thought they were good teachers.

Procedure Our population is the student body. For our unbiased survey we chose a sample of 20 students per grade, so we would have representation from all the grades. After assigning numbers to each student, we used a random number generator to pick our sample.

Procedure Continued For our biased survey, we did a convenience sample by taking the survey to each of the previously mentioned teacher’s third or fourth hour class. We were trying to bias the survey for teacher approval. Some of the ways we biased it were: By having them fill it out while they were in that teacher’s class. By only asking yes or no questions. By putting at the top a paragraph about how much teachers do for us.

Biased Survey An education gets you far in life. To have a good job you must first have the proper schooling. Our teachers literally help us prepare for the future, going above and beyond the actual requirements of their jobs. Your success matters to them, because it is theirs as well. We would like students’ opinions about how they feel about their teachers and what they do. 1. Is an efficient teacher? YesNo 2. Is their grading system fair? YesNo 3. Do they try to help the students? YesNo 4. Why do you think they became a teacher?

Challenges Finding all 80 students for our unbiased survey was a huge pain! Especially the last 30 or so because most of them were freshman we didn’t know, while the others we either had classes with or knew someone who did. We didn’t think about having them put their grade so we couldn’t separate them by age. Our nonresponse bias for the unbiased was 8% Our nonresponse bias for the biased survey was 1.1% (one kid refused to give it back!) There were a lot of students who had never had these teachers, forcing us to mark them as “Not Applicable” on the unbiased survey.

Unbiased Results For Mr. Spencer Results for Mr. Spencer had a % Not Applicable response. To Better Understand students opinion on him, we took out all of the Not Applicable results (we’ve done this with everyone else as well) % % 1.351% 4.054%

Unbiased for Mr. Spencer Cont. These graphs show how that more than 95% of the students who have had Mr. Spencer approve of him, and his teaching methods % 3.03% % 3.03% 9.09%

Unbiased for Mrs. Davis The results for Mrs. Davis had a lower Not Applicable rate. More than 90% of her students surveyed like her % 29.73% % % % 9.524% % 9.524% %

Unbiased For Mrs. Squire Mrs. Squire had the highest rate of applicable responses (this might be because she teaches P.E. and is the only Health teacher). She has over a 93% approval rate from her students % % % 4.054% % % 6.522% %

Unbiased For Ms. Lund Ms. Lund had The highest number of students who haven’t had a class from her. Of those who have, % approve of her and her teaching methods % 1.351% 5.405% 20.27% % % % % % % 3.571%

Biased for Spencer Our Biased survey for Mr. Spencer did exactly what we wanted it to. We got showing that100% of the students in his class like his method of teaching. YA Mr. Spencer

Biased for Mrs. Davis Our Biased survey for Mrs. Davis was very much the same but with less dislikes.

Biased for Mr. Baird The biased for Mr. Bairds class proved to be successful with a 91% approval rate.

Biased for Mrs. Squire The biased for Mrs. Squire was just as successful but some of the data was messed up so it wasn’t recorded.

Biased for Mrs. Lund The biased for Mrs. Lund was also better than the unbiased. It also got more students to rate the teacher as a like rather than a kinda like.

Biased vs. Unbiased The biased survey went exactly the way we wanted it to. We got a higher approval rate from the biased survey than we did from the unbiased survey.

What does this mean? The results for this survey show that Students here at Juab High School generally have a positive opinion of their teachers.
