Harvesting Camas Revitalizing culture Raising awareness about native food systems Protecting landscapes

Harvesting Camas -Camas is an essential part of the Garry Oaks Ecosystem - These meadows are one of the most endangered ecosystems in Canada

Harvesting Camas - Revitalizing Cheryl Bryce – Lekwungen Songhees First Nations - In the summer of 2005 Cheryl, along with the community, brought back the traditional Camas harvest with it’s first pit cook at UVic

Harvesting Camas - Awareness Cheryl continues to work with the community to harvest camas wherever possible and create awareness in the process

Harvesting Camas – Protecting History & Landscapes Camosun College now has a harvest every year in June!

Harvesting Camas - Summary Benefits -Reintroducing traditional ways of life -Promoting healthy eating and nutrition -Supporting endangered ecosystems

Harvesting Camas… Protecting camas harvest sites helps support ecosystems that are at risk. Removal of invasive species is part of preparing camas for harvest, so it can grow. ** Is this ecosystem worth saving?
