Geometric Shapes Learning Center Deborah Thonus This PowerPoint is designed to be used as a learning center. Students will see video clips of different shapes found in the world around them. They will also see how shapes are combined and subdivided. There are 2 opportunities for informal assessment. This PowerPoint learning center also contains instructions for follow-up projects so students may perform their understanding in new problems and in tangible ways. To provide multiple entry points to the content, students will have choices with a variety of products and the video clips they watch.

Shape Poetry Choose a shape and write a poem about your shape. You must include words from the definition of your shape. Use the Glossary in your math book for the definition. Some ideas for your poem: Draw the shape’s outline a write your words around the outside of the shape. Use the definition to write a free verse, 5 senses, or 5 W’s poem. (See examples on our bulletin board.) Comparison Poem- Compare your shape to things around in our world using similes. Haiku Acrostic - Spell your shape’s name going down the side. (See examples on our bulletin board.)
