The Crucible Act I

Open to PAGE 21 – in Reader

Before starting on page 8, let’s review some key setting descriptions. A Town sounds larger and more modern than a village. Salem is closer to a village. People all probably know one another, which could cause drama. Salem is strict. They don’t really have fun. It could cause people to rebel, especially young people.

Tituba (40s) - Slave Parris (mid 40s) – Reverend Abigail – 17 years old Susanna (16) Goody Putman (45) Thomas Putnam (near 50) Mercy Lewis (18) Mary Warren (17) Betty Parris (10) John Proctor (mid 30s) Rebecca Nurse (72) Giles Corey (83) Characters Introduced in Act 1 - First 1/2

Stage directions are in italics and are not read (example: Abigail, with anger) Narrator – Ms. N (or audio) - I will read narration only after the first stage directions of each character. Ex: Parris, scrambling to his feet in a feet: Out of my sight! She is gone.

Begin on page 8
