ABSTRACT FORM State three science concepts that you learned based on this lab: WRONG STATEMENTS 1. I learned about mass and how to calculate mass. 2. I learned about volume and how to find volume. 3. I learned about density and how to calculate density. CORRECT STATEMENTS: 1. I learned that mass is the amount of matter (atoms) in a substance and it is measured using a balance (unit: grams). 2. I learned that volume is the space an object occupies and for cubic/ rectangular solids we use a ruler where V = LxWxH; for irregular objects (cork, pebble) we use a graduated cylinder (water displacement method) to find volume. 3. I learned that density is the amount of mass divided by the amount of volume; it represents the internal atomic arrangement of atoms in a substance

1.Liquid water is in a kernel of corn. As the liquid water is heated it evaporates to a gas (water vapor). This gas expands causing the kernel to pop. 2. Water vapor gas comes out of the (hot) shower head. The water vapor gas condenses on the cold bathroom mirror forming tiny liquid water droplets which fog up the mirror.

3. On a cold winter day you exhale warm water vapor gas from your mouth. As the warm gas hits the cold air it condenses to form tiny liquid droplets floating in the air (mini cloud) and then you can see your breath. 4. Liquid water in the clothing is heated by the dryer. The heat evaporates the liquid water to a gas thus drying the clothing.

5. Snow on the roof begins to melt due to poor home insulation (heat inside home is rising and leaving home thru roof). The snow melts and the resulting liquid water runs down to the gutters (by gravity) and begins to drip over the flooded gutters. The cold air freezes the dripping water which forms icicles on the gutters of the roof.

64. Freeze 65. No new substance created; same substance, same H 2 O molecule 66. Ice expands
