Presentation transcript:

1) Employees receive a $100 bonus for every $1,000 of merchandise sold. Is this reinforcement schedule VI, VR, FI, or FR? And why? FR: set amount sold for there to be a bonus. Is this action P+, P-, R+, or R- ? And why? R+, something good (money) introduced to encourage behavior. What behavior is trying to be encouraged (or discouraged)? Encourage making sales.

4) A sales clerk at a perfume counter doesn’t know of all the people who stop by her counter, how many sales she will make each day. (Assume she works on commission) The idea is that of all the people that stop by, she doesn’t know who is just browsing and who is actually planning on buying something, so she has to try to make a sale with each person. Is this reinforcement schedule VI, VR, FI, or FR? And why? VR, doesn’t know out of all the customers, how many will buy anything. Assuming that 50 customers stop by, the fewest that can buy something is 0 and the most is 50. So somewhere between 0/50 and 50/50 (a ratio of 0 out of 50…) Is this action P+, P-, R+, or R-? And why? R+, something good (money) introduced to encourage behavior What behavior is trying to be encouraged (or discouraged)? Encouraging making sales

5) A sales clerk at a perfume counter is paid on commission based on the amount of perfume she sells per 8-hour shift. The idea is that the more she sells, the more money she makes. But she knows that for every X amount of sales she makes, she earns Y. Is this reinforcement schedule VI, VR, FI, or FR? And why? FR, makes a set amount of money for each sale made. Is this action P+, P-, R+, or R-? And why? R+, something good (money) introduced to encourage behavior What behavior is trying to be encouraged (or discouraged)? Making sales

6) A sales clerk at a perfume counter is paid a flat rate per 8-hour shift, no matter how much she sells (or doesn’t sell) each day. Is this reinforcement schedule VI, VR, FI, or FR? And why? FI, makes a set amount of money for each set time period. Is this action P+, P-, R+, or R-? And why? R+, something good (money) introduced to encourage behavior What behavior is trying to be encouraged (or discouraged)? Staying entire shift & making sales

7) A teacher gives pop quizzes at least once a week. Is this reinforcement schedule VI, VR, FI, or FR? And why? VI, no idea when or how often the quiz will happen. Is this action P+, P-, R+, or R-? And why? R+, something added to encourage behavior What behavior is trying to be encouraged (or discouraged)? Always being prepared & studying.

9) Hunting. You are waiting in one spot in the woods. Is this reinforcement schedule VI, VR, FI, or FR? And why? VI, don’t know how long until a deer wonders by. Is this action P+, P-, R+, or R-? And why? R+, something starts to increase behavior. What behavior is trying to be encouraged (or discouraged)? More often deer wonder by, longer you’ll hunt/wait.

9) Hunting. You are waiting in one spot in the woods. Or… Assuming that several deer wonder by: of the ones that you shoot at, how many do you actually hit? Is this reinforcement schedule VI, VR, FI, or FR? And why? VR, don’t know how many of the deer that wonder by, how many of them do you actually hit. Is this action P+, P-, R+, or R-? And why? R+, something starts to increase behavior. What behavior is trying to be encouraged (or discouraged)? More deer you kill, the more likely you’ll keep hunting. The fewer you hit, the more likely you probably are to give up sooner.

10) You are paid $20 for each basket of apples you pick. Is this reinforcement schedule VI, VR, FI, or FR? And why? FR, paid for a set number of things done. Is this action P+, P-, R+, or R- ? And why? R+, something good added (payment) to increase a behavior. What behavior is trying to be encouraged (or discouraged)? Encourage picking apples

11) You are paid $120 a day picking apples, no matter how many baskets you pick. Is this reinforcement schedule VI, VR, FI, or FR? And why? FI, paid for a set time frame What behavior is trying to be encouraged (or discouraged)? R+, something good added (payment) to increase a behavior. Is this action P+, P-, R+, or R-? And why? Encourage picking apples

12) You find that doing yoga alleviates stress, so you make a point to fit into your schedule at least 20 minutes of yoga a day. Is this reinforcement schedule VI, VR, FI, or FR? And why? FR, each time you do yoga, stress goes down What behavior is trying to be encouraged (or discouraged)? Doing yoga Is this action P+, P-, R+, or R-? And why? R-, adverse stimulus removed to encourage behavior
