Roof Styles…

Name That Roof Style… *Roofs with sloping ends and sides. Used on various housing styles. Type of roof where all sides slope downwards to the walls House with no gables Hip Roof

Designed by French architect, Mansard. Has two slopes on all sides, with the lower slope being steep and the upper slope almost flat. Designed by French architect, Mansard. Called a French roof Dormers often project from the steeply pitched part of the roof. Mansard Roof characterized by two slopes on each of its sides with the lower slope, punctured by dormer windows, at a steeper angle than the upper

Any disadvantages to this style of roof? Flat Roof As I see it flat roof can be of little use and more problematic because its only useful for utilizing space of roof other wise it has lots of problems attached to it.I will discuss some disadvantages below. Waterproofing must and complex in flat roofs. It is must because water does not slide from flat roofs and it stays on the roof which weakens the material of the roof and most probably result in leakage of roof in rainy season. Drainage is not automatic in flat roof cause if the sides are totally closed of the roof and water will stay on top of the roof which can damage the roof and even the walls if the walls are nearly built.

Has two slopes on each side, the upper slope being flatter than the lower slope. Allowed interior space for full-sized upstairs rooms in this Cape Cod style house. Gambrel Roof

A two sided roof with a steep angle. It has this name because it forms triangular end walls. Gable Roof
