Let’s review addition without regrouping = 8 Our total was not 10 or more so we didn’t have to regroup.
Addition with regrouping is used when our answer is 10 or more. We can only put 9 ones in the ones place. So a 10 is equal to 1 group of ten and 0 ones.
Four ones plus eight ones equal twelve ones in all. 4 ones + 8 ones ones in all
We can regroup the 12 ones as 10 ones and 2 ones. 10 ones 2 ones
Or we can regroup the 12 ones as 1 group of ten and 2 ones. 1 ten ones
is equal to more than 9 so we had to regroup. and 2 in the ones place. We regrouped the 12 ones as 1 in the tens place
Let’s do another one.
Nine ones plus two ones equal eleven ones in all. 9 ones+ 2 ones ones in all
We can regroup the 11 ones as 10 ones and 1 one. 10 ones 1 one
Or we can regroup the 10 ones as 1 group of ten and 1 one. 1 ones1 ten
is equal to more than 9 so we had to regroup. and 1 in the ones place. We regrouped the 10 ones as 1 in the tens place
