 Synthesis means combining separate elements to form a coherent whole.  A synthesis paragraph will bring together  your research and  your analysis and  your own ideas in  a logical, coherent whole that  answers your essential question!

You have already done most of the first steps: 1. choose a question 2. research information about the question 3. read and take notes on your sources 4. analyze the information from your sources Now you are ready to put it all together.

 Make a list or a chart of the key ways that your research has answered the question.  Categorize these ideas:  which are similar?  which are different?  Another idea is to create a grid that will help you organize your ideas

 Your topic sentence should answer the essential question.  The information from your sources and analysis paragraphs provides evidence to support this answer.  Organize the information logically, ending with your strongest points.
