Presentation transcript:

Sam’s parents Sam was one of twelve children born to Sam Adams Sr. and Mary, (maiden name Fifield) Adams. Sam’s parents were puritans, (A significant group of English protesters in the 16 th and 17 th centuries). The family lived on Purchase Street in Boston.

Early life Sam attended Boston Latin school and then entered Harvard University in 1736, at the age of 14. Sam started to show interest in politics while he worked on his master’s degree at Harvard. After graduation Sam’s father loaned him 1,000 British pounds to go into business himself. Adams failed with his own business because of his lack of business instincts. He then entered politics full time.

Sam’s Adult Life In 1748 Adams and some friends were mad at some British soldiers so they made a news paper called the Independent Advertiser, a weekly newspaper that printed many political essays written by Adams. Adams was a part of the Sons Of Liberty, the Boston Tea Party and also signed the Declaration of Independence. Sam was known as ‘The Father of the American Revolution’ because of his stand against Great Britain. Adams drafted instructions for the first public protest against the ‘Sugar Act’. This protest was against the right of Parliament to tax the colonies.

“Samuel Adams”, the Great American beer, is named after him because of his early occupation as a brewer.
