Tawila clinic, Sudan Every three seconds… “A child is denied the Right to survive and grow up healthy”.

What is the cost of coping with illness in Tanzania?

Proposed Interventions in Lindi & Singida GOAL: Improved health service financing mechanisms that are age and gender sensitive and contribute to an improved quality of health care, specifically for the poorest 10% of the population

How? Support District Health Team with grant to ‘kick start’ CHF in Lindi by covering costs of poorest 10% develop objective and transparent mechanisms at community and district level to identify the most vulnerable populations who are entitled to exemptions from paying for health services and to assist in increase in CHF coverage

Support increased on-going voice and accountability for the poorest, especially children Support lesson learning from other districts Support processes for procurement of CHF cards, photos etc. Support roll out of Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI) in parallel to link services to finances

By providing evidence-based input into the national debate based on concrete interventions to strengthen and improve the different cost-sharing and health financing systems in Lindi & Singida

Results Increase the uptake of CHF Seasonal calendar analysis Increase standardisation of package Increase uptake by poor through covering costs decreasingly for three years Strengthen voice and accountability in planning – more child focus Improve quality of health care
