What is culture? Take out a piece of paper and begin a spider map with culture written in the center. -racial -ethnic/ancestral country -religion -gender -school/community -age You will be working with others!

Journals Which part of your culture plays a large role in your identity, or who you are? Explain. How is the following quote true: “You don’t have to burn books to destroy culture. [You] just get people to stop reading them.” Ray Bradbury

What is identity? What defines identity? Shout out responses to the spider map on the board.

What are the identities of these characters? Character Traits ….everybody has them, but a person’s identity is more than a list of traits. In order to figure out their identities we need to sum up those traits into a statement that best defines the characters. Take a close look at Claudette, Jeanette and Mirabella. For each given them 3 major character traits (ones that appear over and over). Now take a closer look. Sum up an identity statement for each character from these 3 traits. “Overall, this character is _______ because….”
