3 rd Angle Projection A 3 rd Angle projection is a 2D drawing of a 3D object. It shows three views the side view is drawn first. The plan view is drawn directly above the side view and the end view directly to the right of the side view. A gap is left between the 3 views to make them easier to understand.

Page Layout-1cm Border 1cm Name Block 2cm Indent

9cm – 90mm Construction lines – use a sharp H pencil and make the lines as light as you can.

7cm – 70mm

2cm – 20mm

Object lines – Use the same sharp H pencil but press harder to produce a dark line this will make the side view stand out from the construction lines.

5cm – 50mm You will now add the details of the window and the door. For this you will need to produce construction lines again. Use a sharp H pencil and press as lightly as you can.

1cm – 10mm

2cm – 20mm

1cm – 10mm

2cm – 20mm

Use object lines to make the windows and door stand out clearly.

2cm – 20mm

4cm – 40mm

2cm – 20mm

Use object lines to make the plan view stand out clearly. This is the gap which separates the side and plan view.

45 ° To draw the diagonal line use the 45° set square. For accuracy make sure the straight edge of the 45° set square is placed on the straight edge of the parallel motion.

You project your vertical lines for the end view from the point were the horizontal lines from the plan view cross the 45° line.

1cm – 10mm

Gap

Render (colour) the 3 rd Angle of the house. Render the windows blue. Render the roof red to look like tiles, the door can be any colour you like.

Homework task -Mobile phone in 3 rd Angle projection. 1)Page layout. 2)3 rd Angle mobile phone – Show all the line details. Remember to judge the proportion of the phone so that the thickness looks realistic. Make sure the gaps between the side, plan and end views are equal
