EngageNY.org Introduction for Experienced Module Users Refining and Deepening Our Work

Purpose of this Session Participants will be able to…  Explain how the mindset with which teams approach looking at student work impacts teacher learning.  Articulate how to help colleagues maintain an internal locus of control with respect to CCSS implementation. EngageNY.org2

3 Framing The Work How will this NTI build upon what you have already learned? How will this NTI help you impact the teaching and learning in your classroom, school, or BOCES?

Talk About It What is an internal locus of control? External? Where in your work have you seen instances of both? How might each affect…  Teacher learning?  Student learning?  School culture? EngageNY.org4

Read This Looking At Student Work As you read, think about: What does it mean to focus on improving, rather than proving? EngageNY.org5

Four “A”s Protocol Identify a facilitator for your table. Discuss each of the following four As for 4 minutes each: Argument: What is the primary claim these authors are making? Aspirations: What in the text do you aspire to? Alignments: In what ways is your school currently aligned to this approach? Not aligned? Adjustments: What adjustments would help bring your school into closer alignment? EngageNY.org6

Moving Forward Over the next two days, consider the following two questions:  How can I practice this mindset during these sessions?  How can I support and build this mindset in my department, school, or BOCES? EngageNY.org7
