CREATING A NEW LESSON

First, click the Teacher Lesson Planner link to the left of the page

Science Math Reading Social Studies Select the planner to which you would like to add a lesson.

a. Here is what you will see when you enter your lesson planner. Note that you can change the view to see the day, week or month. b. To move ahead or go back, use the arrows to the left or right of the “Day, Week, Month” buttons. a b

a b cd f Creating a New Lesson a.Click in the grey area under the date you would like to add a lesson b.Name your lesson c.Choose the first day of the lesson. The date that appears should be the date that you clicked on in step a d.Choose how long your lesson will last. Choosing more than one day will copy that lesson to multiple days. e.Leave the field titled “Lesson” blank f. Save your lesson e

a. To open the fields below the Lesson Name b. When you roll over a box, like the “Unit” box here, you will see a box appear in the upper right corner. c. Click the box to complete that field. a b

a.Once a lesson has been created, you can edit the lesson information. To do so, click the pencil icon as shown by arrow. b.A window will open allowing you to edit the lesson. For example, if a lesson lasted an extra day, you can add a day to the duration. c.If you would like to remove the lesson from your planner, click “Remove Lesson.” This button will remove the lesson from your planner, but allow you to find it later. Deleting a lesson will permanently delete the lesson. You will not be able to go back and find a lesson you delete. a b

Once you click the box, any linked resources will appear in the window to the right. For this example, I will plan a unit for Chapter 2, which is on linear equations. Notice that there is a unit to the right titled “CH 2-Linear Equations” To select this unit, drag the unit into the unit box. NOTE: Only instructional materials from the course you linked will appear here. If you have not linked a course to your planner yet, you can learn about how to do so in “Module #4-Selecting the Courses You Teach”

Once you drag and drop the unit, it will appear in blue under the “Unit” Box. Once a unit is linked to the lesson, all resources for that unit will now be available when planning. Clicking the blue unit link will open the materials available for that unit. Note: If there is no pacing guide in the system for your course, no lessons will appear here. In that case, you will enter this information

Here is an example of the materials available for the unit I am planning.

a b a.As with the Unit Box in the last step, clicking the check box in the top right of the Benchmark box will open related instructional materials to the right. b.To add a benchmark to your lesson, drag and drop that benchmark into the benchmark box. c.To see what the benchmark is, you can hover your mouse over the benchmark. c

Sometimes, there will not be any related materials for a unit. For example, this unit does not have any Essential Questions linked. In this case, a new window will open that you will be able to type into. It may be helpful to be able to copy and paste text into these boxes. If you would like to copy and past, you must use the following keyboard commands: Windows: “Control C” to copy and “Control V” to paste. Mac: “Command(aka apple) C” to copy and “Command(aka apple) V” to paste.

For some fields, boxes appear as shown here. You can click these boxes to add these to your lesson plan. If you are using an instructional format not listed, you can also click inside the box and type your own text.

Continue to scroll through the planner and complete your lesson plan. Once completed, click the submit the lesson at the bottom of the page. Once you submit a lesson, you will see a timestamp of when the plan was submitted. You WILL be able to edit the lesson when you click submit. Use this button to verify when the lesson was completed.
