OBESITY Obesity is when a person is carrying too much body fat for their height and sex

Obesity- How serious is the problem?

Some of the recent headlines reveal that obesity is a major issue for young people

What are the health problems associated with obesity?

Dangers of obesity Diabetes (kidney failure, blindness, limb amputations) Heart Disease Stroke Cancer Reduces life expectancy by 9 years

What can we do about it? Eat regularly –three meals a day Eat food to suit your lifestyle- the more active you are the more energy you will need. If you do not exercise-then you will need less food. Drink fruit juice or sugar free soft drinks instead of fizzy mineral Be as active as possible- aim for at least 30 minutes everyday

Eat a healthy, balanced diet, including at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day Cut down on saturated fat and sugar Try to eat less salt- no more than 6g a day Drink plenty of water Don’t skip breakfast.
