AABI TOWN HALL MEETING USAAP-THE CONCEPT SMALL UNIVERSITY ACCREDITED PROGRAM THOUGHTS REGARDING THE IMPACT AUBURN UNIVERSITY

IMPACT ON THE INSTITUTION

The Role of the institution The institution’s allocation of students Answers to these questions may effect relative market demand among the institutions To what extent would the institution be involved in selecting candidates? What would be the calculus for choice of institution: student preference, USAAP designation based on cost factors, on program size, etc. ? THE SELECTION & ALLOCATION PROCESS

Screening of candidates Increased costs of personnel and capital investment needed to meet additional program requirements. Potential USAAP cost containment measures adversely affecting small university programs. How can the institution aid in candidate screening? What is the potential for government and industry financial support for capital investment under the USAAP program? Is bigger any better? IMPACT ON THE INSTITUTION

IMPACT ON STUDENTS

Recruitment and selection of candidates Market assessment and the student’s decision regarding programs Could students currently enrolled compete for USAAP sponsorship? To what degree will a candidate have a choice as to which program to enter? IMPACT IN THE INSTITUTION’S STUDENTS

IMPACT ON INDUSTRY

Diversity in competition Industry participation in recruitment and selection How is industry’s interest supported should reduction in the number of aviation programs occur? Is there a common candidate profile that is representative of the air transport industry as a whole? IMPACT ON INDUSTRY

FINAL THOUGHTS USAAP: thinking outside the box Quality commercial pilots flying under Parts 121 and 135: a public good warranting across the board funding  Capital investment  Student costs subsidized  Industry-wide financial commitment
