Saving with Space Heaters Northwestern Lehigh High School should use space heaters in every classroom, faculty room, main office, and the library. This solution will supplement the current fuel heating at a lower cost.

Lasko Ceramic Tower Heaters

Mathematical Research

Total Cost with Space Heaters

Current Costs vs. Future Cost with Space Heaters The total amount that the high school is spending on heating fuel is about $115, per year. With the usage of just space heaters it would cost $10, for the first year (with the cost of the actual heaters included) and just $6, every year after. The total amount that the high school is spending on heating fuel is about $115, per year. With the usage of just space heaters it would cost $10, for the first year (with the cost of the actual heaters included) and just $6, every year after.

Change to current fuel cost With the current temperature being at about 70˚F we will lower the thermostat to about 61˚F which is a 13% different in temperature and cost. Therefore the cost for our heating fuel will be $100, With the total cost running space heaters every year our total for heating the high school will be $106, We save $8, a year. Trial and Error We feel this is a good idea. Just to make sure this will work we want to plan a trial first. We can pick a room in each wing of the high school and test our space heater idea. If it works we can expand the idea throughout the whole school.

In Conclusion The space heaters give us the ability to cut back on the cost of heating fuel.

Laptop Distribution Plan The Northwestern Lehigh School District has recently made a large purchase of laptops, chargers, and “C.O.Ws”. All of these appliances use large portions of electricity. The main idea is to loan laptops out to students in 11th and 12th grade courses while 9th and 10th grade courses use computer labs. This will cut costs on electricity.

Energy Consumption -60 watts per hour to charge laptop -1.4 kilowatts per day to charge a laptop -60w/hr*24hr=1440 watts per day -(30 laptops per C.O.W.)*1.4Kw in a day per laptop=42 kilowatts a day per cart -If its in () it’s assumed data -60 watts per hour to charge laptop -1.4 kilowatts per day to charge a laptop -60w/hr*24hr=1440 watts per day -(30 laptops per C.O.W.)*1.4Kw in a day per laptop=42 kilowatts a day per cart -If its in () it’s assumed data

Energy Consumption Cont. -(15 C.O.W. in the school)*42 kilowatts in a day per C.O.W=630 Kw per day to charge the laptops -630 Kilowatts per day * 7.77 cents per kilowatt = $48.95 per day -(275 days in between start and finish of school)*$48.95 per day = $13, saved -(15 C.O.W. in the school)*42 kilowatts in a day per C.O.W=630 Kw per day to charge the laptops -630 Kilowatts per day * 7.77 cents per kilowatt = $48.95 per day -(275 days in between start and finish of school)*$48.95 per day = $13, saved

Responsibility The students are responsible for charging their laptops at home every night so that they have a full battery for the next day. If a student needs to charge their laptop during flex on a daily basis they will lose their privilege to loan a laptop.

The Savings With the electricity that we are saving, we are also saving money. The high school every year will save $13, per year.

Leftover Budget With the amount of money that is saved the school will be able to replace old laptops that are starting to die off. Also their will be enough to start funding a different expense.

In Conclusion This will cut down on the electricity cost and it could save a lot indirectly such as paper and text books because you can use the laptops as substitutes.

Conclusion

Marquee Advertisement The marquee that sits outside the school consumes a rather large amount of energy. We propose that the marquee not only displays upcoming events but also advertisements for local companies.

Marquee math Marquee yearly cost - $ advertisements the advertisers paying $70 biweekly 5*$70 biweekly =$350 biweekly The marquee runs all day all year long 26 biweekly weeks Marquee yearly cost - $ advertisements the advertisers paying $70 biweekly 5*$70 biweekly =$350 biweekly The marquee runs all day all year long 26 biweekly weeks

Marquee Math (cont.) $350*26= $9100 $9100-$1900=$7200 The school would be gaining $7200 every year for allowing advertisements to run on the marquee. $350*26= $9100 $9100-$1900=$7200 The school would be gaining $7200 every year for allowing advertisements to run on the marquee.

Conclusion for all of our ideas
