Ms. Howard 9 th Lit./Comp WARRING FAMILIES: A CLASSROOM COMPETITION
In Romeo and Juliet, we have two families that are constantly feuding with each other: the Capulets and the Montagues. This class will likewise be divided into the Capulets and the Montagues.
FAMILY SHIELDS: Once you have been assigned your family, you must vote together on 2 family colors. Put a picture of him or her self in the upper left corner A quote that represents him or her in the upper right corner Five things he or she enjoys in the bottom left corner And a ‘C' or an ‘M' in the bottom right hand corner for Capulet or Montague
COMPETITION RULES: The Warring Families will be locked in their feud for the duration of the Romeo and Juliet unit. 1. Every family begins at “0” points. 2. Once a family accumulates -5 points, a family member is banished. Negative points accumulate as a result of missed assignments, poor grades, bad behavior, or any other infraction as decided by the classroom royalty: Mrs. Hollers and Ms. Howard. 3. Once a family accumulates +5 points, a banished member is brought back. Positive points accumulate as a result of high test scores, general helpfulness, or good behavior.
COMPETITION RULES: 4. Students turning in the assignment late are banished immediately. 5. Families can either vote on who to banish or family members can volunteer to be banished or you can choose who is banished. As far as the contest is concerned, banished members still contribute positive and negative points to the team and suffer no individual negative grade consequences. 6. At the end of the play, the team with the most points gets to exempt the unit test. Any banished members, even if they are part of the winning family, will have to take the test.
