MICE : The Needs Infrastructure and requirements from RAL Muon beam Experimental hall Infrastructure in the experimental hall Electrical power and cooling Space for control rooms and auxiliary rooms Services for design, construction and installation Requirements from safety Offices and laboratory space Data acquisition and computing Requirements for operating the experiment July 8, RAL MICE Collaboration Meeting 2

MICE : The Needs July 8, RAL MICE Collaboration Meeting 3 Experimental Hall Building R5.2 at RAL Floor space: available m 2 (47m × 12m) needed - ? (15 m × 5 m, according to LOI ) Height: 8 m Infrastructure in the experimental hall : Cranes : 2 available (8 t each) The system of rails (?) Platforms (?) Cable trays or floor ducts Supply of cooling water compressed air (?)

MICE : The Needs Electrical Power and Cooling Electrical power for spectrometer for coils for RF cavities for cryogenic system Cooling power for superconducting coils for LH 2 absorbers July 8, RAL MICE Collaboration Meeting 4

MICE : The Needs Space for Control Rooms and Auxiliary Rooms Control room Local laboratory Space for intermediate storage of components (?) cylinder storage compressor hall helium buffer tank July 8, RAL MICE Collaboration Meeting 5

MICE : The Needs Services for Design, Construction and Installation Design of the beam line Co-ordination of the design of the experimental set up Design, procurement, construction and installation of the required power systems, cooling systems and their service lines Co-ordination of the installation at RAL July 8, RAL MICE Collaboration Meeting 6

MICE : The Needs Requirements from Safety Co-ordination of the safety aspects Special equipment required by safety such as shielding igloo for absorbers ventilation equipment fences monitoring system and alarms means of escape etc. July 8, RAL MICE Collaboration Meeting 7

MICE : The Needs Requirements for Operating the Experiment A supply of hydrogen, helium, nitrogen Supply of chamber gases Maintenance and control of the cryosystem Quick access to the main workshop for small repairs Access to the stores for spares Operational personnel July 8, RAL MICE Collaboration Meeting 8

Specifying the needs for MICE In order to move forward towards a Technical Proposal we request the following information from all the sub-system co-ordinators: What are the main components of the sub-system? What is/are the largest component/s of the system, their dimensions and weight ? How much electrical power do you need? How much cooling power do you need? Do you demand compressed air, water (raw /demineralized)? What crane capacity do you demand ? Do you have specific handling / space requirements for installation ? Additional requirements July 8, RAL MICE Collaboration Meeting 9 MICE : The Needs
