Multiply two binomials using FOIL method
The third method is the Box Method. This method works for every problem! Here’s how you do it. Multiply (3x – 5)(5x + 2) Draw a box. Write a polynomial.
1.(-7) (-2) 2.(3)(-6) 3.(4)(5) 4.(-3) (4t) 5.(2)(-2x) 6.(7y)(3) 7.3(s+5) 8.4(-n+2) 9.4-(t+2) 10.3n+(2-n)
Simplify by combining like terms: 1. (5x 3 – 3x) + (8x 3 + 4x) = 2. (4y 3 + 8xy) – (3xy + 9y 3 )= 3. (5x 3 – 2y 3 ) – (5y 3 + 6x 3 )= 13x 3 + x -5y 3 +

+ FOIL – Multiplying Polynomials

+ Warm – Up!! Good Morning! Please pick up your calculator as you walk in! Use the BOX method to multiply the following polynomials: 1. (5x + 1) (6x – 4) 2. (4x 2 – x + 5) (4x + 7)

+ Multiplying Polynomials – FOIL Method Sometimes it just doesn’t work as well to use the box method. Instead we will distribute. Remember, distribute means multiply everything in parentheses by what is outside of parentheses.

+ Example 1: -4y 2 (5y 4 – 3y 2 +2)

+ Example 2: 3b(5b 2 + b + 6)

+ YOU TRY!! 1. 2x(x 2 – 6x +5) 2. 8m(m +8) 3. -7h(3h 2 – 8h – 1)

+ FOIL Method We only use this to multiply two binomials FOIL stands for First, Outer, Inner and Last After you multiply, add your products and combine like terms.

+ Example 3: (x + 3)(x – 2)

+ Example 4: (2x + 6) 2

+ Example 5: (3x + 4)(2x +5)

+ YOU TRY!! 1. (x + 2)(x + 10) 2. (9x – 3) ( x + 4)
