PLANET SYMBOLS By Liam Hall, 3 rd Grade

SUN The sun is a producer of light and heat. The sun is not the biggest sun. If the sun didn’t exist, neither would we. In Greek mythology, the Sun is known as Helios.

MERCURY Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. Surprisingly, it is not the hottest. In Greek mythology, Mercury is known as Hermes, the messenger of the gods.

VENUS Venus is the second closest planet to the sun. Venus is the hottest planet. Venus is the goddess of beauty. In Greek mythology, she is known as Aphrodite.

EARTH Earth is the planet we live on. It is the only planet with life on it, or at least that we know of. Earth is the only planet without a Roman or Greek god.

MARS Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun. Mars is also known as The Red Planet. Mars is the god of war. His Greek name is Ares.

JUPITER Jupiter is the first Gas Giant. Jupiter has a giant hurricane. Its hurricane is called The Great Red Spot. In Roman mythology, Jupiter is known as Zeus, the god of the sky. Zeus is one of the three really important gods.

SATURN Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun. Saturn has unique rings around it. The rings of Saturn are made of rock, dust, and ice. In Roman mythology, Saturn is known as Kronos, the titan lord of time.

URANUS Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun. Uranus is an aqua-turquoise color. Uranus is veeerrryyy cold. In Roman mythology, Uranus is known as Hera, the goddess of heaven.

NEPTUNE Neptune is a vvveeerrryyy ccccoolldd planet. Neptune is my favorite planet. Neptune is known as Poseidon, the god of sea. He is one of the three big gods.

PLUTO Pluto is dark and cold. Pluto grows and shrinks. I would not want to live on Pluto. In Greek mythology, Pluto is known as Hades, the god of the Underworld. He is the final big god.
