Ofsted consultation: Common Inspection Framework (national)  “Better Inspection for All” - 9 Oct – 5 Dec 2014  5 key judgements, 4-point scale, following new model (no “Satisfactory”)  Key questions about proposed judgements  Greater emphasis on:  safeguarding / suitability of the curriculum offered by providers / preparation for life in Britain today  No proposals to introduce shorter inspections for “Good” or “Outstanding” early years providers  for-new-framework-for-inspection-of-schools-further for-new-framework-for-inspection-of-schools-further

Early Years Funding: Statutory Guidance (national)  Produced 8 September 2014  Includes new information on  Promoting British values  Withdrawal of funding follow “Inadequate” judgement  “High quality”, “Free” “flexible” and “addressing inequalities” are still central to delivery of places 

Special Educational Needs: new Code of Practice (national / local)  Chapter 5 refers specifically to early years providers  All providers must have regard to the Code of Practice, and meet the needs of children with disabilities and Special Educational Needs  Must not discriminate  Must make reasonable adjustments  Must assess children’s needs of in line with their approach to monitoring the development of all children (specific check for 2- year-olds)   Local Authorities must publish a Local Offer  disabilities/549/about_cambridgeshires_local_offer disabilities/549/about_cambridgeshires_local_offer

Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP)  National initiative  Live from April 2015 across the country  £300 per year (53p / hour on the hourly rate) for children meeting Free School Meal criteria  Local implementation  Cambridgeshire one of six LA’s implementing from January 2015  test the systems for allocating funding and checking eligibility  Further guidance coming soon!
