Users are able to create personal profiles, blogs, create groups, upload photos, music, and videos. Facebook Mark Zuckerberg February 2004 Social Networking Website Free Service Required Age: 13 & over Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them. People use Facebook to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet.

Facebook Statistics User Demographics –More than 63 million active users –Active users doubling every 6 months –Over 55,000 regional, work-related, collegiate, and high school networks –More than half of Facebook users are outside of college –The fastest growing demographic is those 25 years old and older

Feature MySpace Groups MySpace has a Groups feature which allows a group of users to share a common page and message board. Groups can be created by anybody, and the moderator of the group can choose for anyone to join, or to approve or deny requests to join. Facebook With Facebook Groups, you can join and create up to 200 groups. Groups can be based around shared interests, activities, or anything you like. The Groups application page displays your recently updated groups as well as groups your friends have joined recently.

MySpace & Facebook Relevance to education Popular among English and Literature teachers for Character Analysis on the material they are reading. At Stanford University a new course, called Create Engaging Web Applications Using Metrics and Learning on Facebook was developed for computer science students. It is intended to help students learn how to build and market user-friendly software. Students will build applications for Facebook, then gather and analyze detailed information about how Facebook users actually use them. They’ll be graded based on how many Facebook users they can get actively using their applications.

Privacy MySpace Private Profiles Every profile has the option of being ‘private.’ This means that only you and those you have added and approved as friends can see the details of your profile, including your blog, photos, interests, etc. Facebook People can only see the profiles of confirmed friends and the people in their networks.
