George Washington He received every vote possible in 1789 to become our nation’s first president His cabinet included Henry Knox, Thomas Jefferson, and Alexander Hamilton

Thomas Jefferson Author of the Declaration of Independence Saw a country of self-sufficient farmers Wanted minimal government interference Valued our relationship with the French Democratic-Republican Party

Farewell George He was president for 2 four year terms He gave several warnings in his farewell address – No alliances with Europeans – NO political parties – Avoid sectionalism (division according to areas) Did we listen?
