Birth Gertrude Ederle was born on Oct.23rd 1906.

Childhood The first time Gertrude Ederle went swimming in the water she was 7. It was in Germany.

School She almost drowned and then her father taught her how to swim. He tied a rope around her waist and told her to doggy paddle in the river.

Interesting Events At 15 she won her first race 16 she swam from New York City to new Jersey then she swam on the Olympics on the U.S team she won 3 medals in Paris.

Accomplishments After 2 tries she swam across the English channel its over 20 miles she was the first women to do it she beat the mans record

Death? She died at the age of 98 on November 3rd 2003
