COACH DUTIES prepares the practices carefully organizes practice schedules prepares the practices carefully develops playing strategies for the team

COACH OBJECTIVES To have a winning team To help young people develop physically, psychologically and socially To help young people have fun

STYLES OF COACHING Authoritative Style Democratic Style Command Style Submissive Style Cooperative Style

Authoritative Style Democratic Style coach makes all the decisions the athletes learn to follow orders, but will not develop thinking skills and personal qualities Democratic Style a coach outlines the training requirements invites ideas or suggestions from the athletes

Command Style Submissive Style Cooperative Style coaches make all the decisions useful when establishing rules and safety parameters Submissive Style ‘babysitting style’ when your players or athletes are taking part in a small game for fun or as part of a warm down Cooperative Style this is the most modern and most effective style of coaching the athletes are given the freedom to share decisions with the coach the challenge of this form of coaching is finding a balance with when you should direct the athlete and when they should direct themselves

Questions to revise: What are the duties of a coach? What are the objectives of a coach? What coaching styles do you remeber? What style of coaching would you apply to your practice? Explain why.
