Presentation transcript:

4/11/11 BR- Please stand by to receive a book.. Beginning George Orwell’s Get books 2. Outline process 3. Begin reading 4. Journal Time

How will we do this? You will be given a book. We will read and discuss in class. There will be some outside reading. You will keep a journal (like the diary the main character in the book keeps..) These journals will be collected and returned just before the final assessment for the book.

1984 Journal Each day you will write in a journal describing your process in the book. This is a good way to keep track of your thoughts/understandings in the book. Each journal entry will be worth 10 points. You are required to do an entry each class day. Extra entries can get you extra credit (5 class days but 7 days in a week.)

Journal Entry 1. Date and approximate location in the book. 2. Thought for the day (a reaction to something you read about that day) 3. One vocabulary word (defined) 4. A question for class the next day.

Journal Entry - Example 1. Date: 4/12/10, pages This place seems really depressing. It sounds like everything is all wrecked. Is this guy happy? I think its messed up that his elevator never works. 3. Contrived – faked, made up, forced. His sadness seemed contrived 4. What do they do in the Ministry of Love?
