International Telecommunication Union The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010 Technical session 3: ITS-Networking, architecture and protocols Summary and next steps Session Chair : Denis Griot Freescale

International Telecommunication Union The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010 Highlights from Continental Presentation “Real Time Ethernet for Automotive” Ethernet AVB provides Quality of Service necessary in the vehicle Ethernet AVB provides similar costs to standard Ethernet Current activities: Integration of AVB in Automotive ECUs The authors recommend to use standards Research on QoS model for different data transmission Evaluation of enhancements and modifications of AVB Helge Zinner

International Telecommunication Union The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010 Highlights from Continental Presentation „Network and configuration management“ Integration of SNMP into an Automotive Environment Examination of different approaches to network configuration Research on algorithms which allow dynamic reconfiguration of the system Analysis of energy saving capabilities Realization of an experimental model network for concept evaluation Norbert Balbierer

International Telecommunication Union The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010 Highlights from I.I.T. Delhi “Development of open-core Flexray controller for OEM ultra low cost Automotive” o Vehicular networking will play a major role in the future automobile o As a vehicular networking protocol, Flexray will ease implementations like “Steer by wire”, “Brake by wire” in future automobiles o Open-source silicon will be to automobiles what open-source is to software. Boundaries will end, monopolies will cease. o Smart Flexray controllers will help in managing the data flow in a vast Flexray network and bringing down the cost per ECU PRAMOD.VSUBRAT KAR

International Telecommunication Union The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010 Highlights from Freescale Evolution of Automotive In-Vehicle Networking Vehicle E/E Architecture is becoming overcomplicated Domain controller vehicle E/E architecture is the new trend Need for high computing power Need for high bandwidth network: FlexRay in the chassis/safety domain Ethernet in the infotainment/Diagnostic domain Need for centralized gateway Centralized Gateway is needed to provide the necessary interface to C2C & C2I solutions Increase computing power, increased software content, increase complexity will drive the demand for functional safety: ISO26262 Safety standards are becoming the key enabler for the design of all new electronic application in the vehicle Marc Osajda

International Telecommunication Union The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010 Highlights from Telcordia « Context-Driven Disruption Tolerant Networking for Vehicle Applications” Overviewed general DTN approaches Proposed a context-driven DTN (C-DTN) that supports networking in consideration of application context needs Evaluations to validate C-DTN dissemination performance with realistic mobility Diversity in mobility pattern generally improves performance Under correlated mobility model, DTN dissemination performance depends on a number of factors Ratul Guha

International Telecommunication Union The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010 Highlights from INRIA The GeoNet project:Combination of IPv6 & GeoNetworking IPv6 + GeoNetworking = Enabling technology for better: Road safety Traffic efficiency Value added services Well supported at time of set-up C2C-CC, SafeSpot, Coopers, CVIS Status 1 reference specification 2 prototype implementations (Linux 2.6 / UMIP) Experimentation on a fleet of 4 vehicles Conformance tests: TTCN-3 Emulation with NCTUns CVIS selected as the target platform Effective dissemination in SDOs (ISO, ETSI, IETF) Thierry Ernst

International Telecommunication Union The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010 Session 3 : Conclusions Rapid evolution of in-vehicle networks towards higher bandwidth and functional safety The gateway ECU functionality will expand as V2V V2I deployment kicks off in 2013 Real time Ethernet and fault tolerant protocols – Flexray – will co-exist EVs, PHEVs, ultimately all vehicles will be compliant to ISO26262 Context driven disruption networking (C-DTN) guarantees high QoS, a demonstrator will provide the proof of concept GeoNet will enable position aware applications, IPv6 will be mandatory Denis Griot

International Telecommunication Union The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010 Session 3 - Recommendations to the Standards Defining Organizations 1. Concretize the ISO/ITU-T joint working group for the standardization of the in-vehicle networking architecture and protocol 2. Support System Level standards approach to ensure interoperability Denis Griot
