HOMESCHOOL VS. ONLINE LEARNING   A personal experience from a student who was homeschooled and took online learning classes

ONLINE LEARNING  Encourages outside learning  “springboard away from the machines”  Online learning is not supposed to be their online course work  In 2019 more than half of high school courses will be online

MOTIVATION TO SUCCEED  Willingness to learn  Making the effort to participate in class  Not just looking for the “A”

SELF-DISCIPLINE AND RESPONSIBILITY  They chose when they are prepared to do the work  Not limited to a specific time period  Take as much time as they need on tasks

INDEPENDENT WORKER  Less physical interaction with students  Self reliant  Less social

SUPPORT FROM PARENTS  Open communication with teacher and parent  Helping students stay focus  Get involved in student’s learning

BENEFITS OF TAKING ONLINE CLASSES  As a summer makeup class  Classes not available in certain schools  For extra credits to graduate  GED  Challenging courses  Home Schooling

GOOD ONLINE TEACHERS  Devotes time and energy  Always available  Creative  Breaks down lessons and Integrates curricula  Focus on concepts

DEVOTES TIME AND ENERGY  Put in time to make up the lessons  More work than traditional classroom  More effort in preparing helps students stay interested

ALWAYS AVAILABLE  Answering s at anytime  Students can take class at anytime of day  Teachers available for questions and ideas 24/7  Set office hours as 8 a.m -5 p.m

CREATIVE  Keeps students engaged  Making it interesting  Giving options of how to learn and present projects  Move away from traditional teaching

BREAKS DOWN LESSONS AND INTEGRATES CURRICULA  Makes large units into smaller parts  Students decide how fast they want to move thru the units  Easily digested  Not overwhelming  Link lessons to web based activities  Not just text based assignments

FOCUS ON CONCEPTS  Focus on concepts not class time  Get there points across without time frame  Students know how they are doing faster
