How to Create a PowerPoint…

Number 1 Question: Has the audience come away from this with information that was in-line with the original point of the presentation?

Pictures Do not use clip art or pictures just to “fill space” Do not use pictures or clip art that is not relevant to your topic No more than two graphics per slide

Text Information on a slide should be broken down into bullet format Bullets should be short, sweet, and to the point! (Rule: 6 words per slide) NEVER COPY AND PASTE! If a slide has more than six bullets, start another slide Make the font large enough to see (at least 28) Avoid cursive and other fancy fonts

DON’T OVERDO IT! Too many “bells and whistles” will take away from the actual information Select a theme from the beginning if you must; too many different templates and designs is distracting Avoid sound effects When animating and transitioning sentences, use the same technique -- EX: Don’t fly one in, drop one down, zigzag the next, and explode the last with sound effects. It’s too much!! Sometimes less is more!

Want to emphasize a main point? PUT IT ON THE SCREEN BY ITSELF AND LET PEOPLE READ IT!!!

Presentation The PowerPoint should only be an aid to help you DO NOT JUST READ WORD FOR WORD OFF OF THE POWERPOINT WITHOUT ADDING YOUR OWN SPIN! You’ve already researched your topic, so you should feel comfortable enough to present without the PowerPoint Practice and time your presentation Speak loudly and clearly. DO NOT chew gum!
