HOW AND WHERE OLYMPICS GAMES THE STARTED AND ENDED! The Ancient Greek Olympics started nearly 3000 years ago. The event happened every 4 years for over 1000 years. The Olympics were held in Olympia and was called the Olympics. The Olympics were held in Olympia because the gods of Greece lived on Mount Olympus. The King said that it should be held there and should be named after the place where it was held. The Ancient Greek Olympics ended 393 AD.

WHO COULD COMPETE? The competitors had to be a Free man (not a slave) to compete. BUT, there are records of at least one woman having competed and won. The competitors were expected to be or at least look youthful They also had to be able to speak Greek Athletes had to vow to Zeus (A Greek God) that they had completed 10 months training before entering. The competitors were called heroes.

The Heroes The Heroes competed and earned money and olive branches.

DIFFERENCES The Greek Olympics had fewer activities than ours, there was only one event (a running race) until the 14 th Olympic games!
