Helen Farmery 3 rd October 2015 AMET Manchester How do we squish a mathematics specialism into a Primary PGCE that is already bursting at the seams?

We are offering you an opportunity to deepen your interest in the teaching and learning of mathematics and to evidence it with the title of Specialism in Mathematics. If you have a B or above in GCSE mathematics Some evidence of further study of mathematics in your post GCSE studies You have grade 2 in TS4 for your SBT1 and SBT2 You are consistently graded ‘good’ in your observed mathematics lessons then we would be delighted that you apply for this enrichment opportunity. You will need to evidence in a portfolio your engagement with the subject in the classroom, in the school community and in the world beyond school and you will be supported to do this through extra tutor time, support from the subject leader in school and through materials in a designated area on Unihub. Entry Requirements

Points for discussion What are the aims? What do you prioritise? Dig deeper or add content? How do you ensure a specialism without overloading?

Focussing on children’s learning (rather than teachers’ teaching)
