Graduation Requirements
The Grade 9 Program at EHSS includes 6 compulsory courses: English Math Science Canadian Geography French Healthy Active Living (open level)
And 2 electives: Students can select from various courses including: arts (visual, dance, music, photography, drama) technology course (exploring technologies) business technology languages (Spanish, Japanese)
Students can take several different types of courses: Enriched (math, English, French) Academic Applied Open
Eligibility for Enriched Courses:
FSF1D3 Fluent/proficient in oral and written And/or Coming from an immersion or extended program And/or Speak French at home (French parent(s))
MPM1D3 Grade 8 teacher recommendation only
ENG1D3 Grade 8 teacher recommendation only
Academic Courses: Grade 9 and 10 academic courses lead to Grade 11 and 12 University and/or Mixed Courses Focus is more on theory More opportunities for independent study
Applied Courses: Grade 9 and 10 applied courses lead to grade 11 and 12 Mixed and/or College courses Follow an applied learning or hands on learning approach More opportunities for in-class, group based and experiential learning
Open Courses: Appropriate for all learning styles and abilities All electives in grade 9 and 10 are open courses
Course Selection Process In February, students select their grade 9 course in their feeder schools using the Course Selection Form and MyBlueprint These forms are collected and delivered to us Timetables are created based on requests Elective choices subject to timetable scheduling
Visiting Earl Haig Incoming students have many opportunities to visit EHSS: Various dance/music/drama productions Moving On Up day in August
Guidance Department/Student Services Our role is to support students in their learning and development: Academic: pathways (uni/college/apprenticeship/work), summer school, night school, enrichment opportunities Social/Emotional: personal counselling, confidential, conflict management/resolution Wellness: promoting physical and emotional health Community Resources: liaise with various partners to meet dynamic needs of students
