Blood Diamonds Jonathan Lee 806

Summary The conflict started in 1992 when their squad leader Jonas Savimbi was looking for a way to profit in his army. He bought weapons ammunition guns and knifes with that money from African weapon dealers The Africa militia attacked villages that had had rivers and that could have had diamonds He also recruit child soldiers

The Problem There is smuggling in Africa with diamonds The African military is making inhumane acts Reports from the United Nations are heard that $23 million were smuggled into trade. There are also reports of genocide

The problem There is Underground trading. This is located in the back alleys of koidu. Families were tortured before going into the mines. A example of this is by cutting off a arm of a leg. Guerrilla leaders sold the diamonds illegally all over the world. The workers get paid less then a dollar a day

Comparing with US history One way this is compared with US history is human rights violation. I can compare in US history by the government abusing civilians in the past. Another way this is comparing with US history is child labor. I can compare this by the second industrial revolution where children had to work in factories and on the streets to make money There is also reports of genocide in some parts of Africa.

Comparing with US history There is also slavery. This took place in the south parts of America like Virginia. I can compare this by people controlling African Americans Another reason is colonialism. I can compare this to US history by king George the third. He controlled the citizens of the US by paying high taxes and much more
