Face-off location

 Puck Movement ◦ Puck may be advanced by using stick ◦ Hands may be used only to catch and drop the ball straight down. Any advancement, movement, or covering of the ball with the hands is considered a violation, causing a face off. ◦ Goalies can throw sideways or forward, but not passed the first white line (face-off) ◦ Goals can only be scored with stick, deflections are fine but cannot be intentional ◦ Players may kick the ball to advance it, but a goal may NOT be scored off it. ◦ 3 line rule!!!

 Puck In Play ◦ Always in play unless it goes onto the bench, hits ceiling, or gets caught in net ◦ If a ball hits the ceiling without a deflection it’s a delay of game penalty ◦ A ball which lodges on top of the net will result in a face-off from the nearest face-off circle  Scoring ◦ Goal is scored when the ENTIRE ball crosses the goal line ◦ Players may kick the ball/puck to advance it, but a goal may NOT be scored off it.

 Walls ◦ Legal  use hands to slow momentum, use wall to pass ball ◦ Illegal  using two hands to gain advantage- 2 min interference  Hold ball against wall- 2 min delay of game penalty  Using two hands- forced by defender- 2 min charging  A dangerous charge- 5 min charge, unsportsmanlike penalty  A violent charge along wall – automatic ejection

 Goalie Privileges ◦ Goalies can:  Catch, carry, strike, or propel the ball with the hands  Slide to make a save if part of body remains in crease  If contact is made outside of crease (2 min dangerous play) ◦ Cannot be:  Charged, interfered with, or impeded with  2 min interference

 Crease Play ◦ No part of any offensive player may break the plane of the crease- violation results in faceoff at center ◦ No goal will be counted if offensive player goes into crease ◦ Defensive players can be in the crease*** ◦ Goalies can freeze puck  Goaliess can leave crease to play puck but cannot freeze outside of crease (delay of game)

Crease/Goalie Box

As an official, use your judgment on the penalty called.

 High sticking  When a player raises his stick above his waist and contacts the puck or another player  Slashing  If a player swings his stick at another player hard and intentionally  Unsportsmanlike Conduct  A player gets a penalty if they: ◦ Argue or challenge a referee’s decision or penalty call ◦ Deliberately throw any piece of equipment outside of the playing surface or knock the puck out of the way of a referee retrieving it ◦ Use profane or abusive language towards any player or referee ◦ There are many different ways a player can receive an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty, including swearing, inappropriate gestures and even for Diving/flopping.  Cross-checking  To hold your stick with both hands across your chest and push out, striking another player with the shaft of your stick. This is a minor penalty. High sticking Slashing Unsportsmanlike Conduct Cross-Checking

 Hooking  When a player holds another player with his stick and tugs and holds him with his stick  Tripping  When a player uses his stick or a part of his body to knock the legs from under an opposing player or cause him to fall  Boarding  When a player body checks another player and causes them to be thrown against the boards  Holding  When a player grabs on to another player and doesn’t let go for more than three seconds Hooking Tripping Boarding Holding

 *The 5 th box related penalty recorded in a period will result in a penalty shot for the opposing team. Whether or not the opposing team scores on the penalty shot, the player committing the penalty must serve the 2/5 minute penalty. The only way that person will be released from the box is if the opposing team scores once play has resumed.

 Substitutions ◦ On the fly ◦ Must wait till player reaches the bench ◦ Teams switch sides every period ◦ Officials need to be informed before goalie changes are made ◦ A team with an ejected player plays down for 10 minutes  Overtime ◦ If a game is tied after regulation time expires a best of 5 shoot-out will occur. Teams will alternate shots. ◦ The supervisor will meet with each team captain and do rock, paper, scissors to determine who will shoot first.

 All teams will receive an acceptable, unacceptable, or season ending rating after each game
