Use the at least 5 of the following terms in a paragraph about Jackson’s presidency: Nullification States’ rights National Bank Tariff of Abominations Jacksonian Democracy Spoils system Nicholas Biddle John C Calhoun

As an orphaned teenager he served as a messenger during the Revolution. Taken prisoner by the British and showed his rebellious spirit. Married Rachel Lombard. She was truly the love of his life. Jackson was otherwise short- tempered. He fought at least 10 duels in his lifetime.

Jackson became known fighting Indians on the frontier, famous defeating the British in New Orleans, powerful by taking Florida from Spain.

The remainder of today’s presentation will feature commentary from two guest speakers. Farmer James McPoor Banker Alfred Featherbottom Yee ha dude! ‘Tis my great honor to make your acquaintance viewer.

The tragedy of it all. Once you let that rabble in they won’t leave. Probably have to trick the louts with some wine. WINE? WHERE? I want it!

Ah, now this is a true display of how a true gentleman should behave. Bo-ring.

Bro, this is how you party! Look at the size of that cheese man! Whew doggy! A rabble, a mob, scrambling, fighting, romping. But it was the people’s day and the people’s president.

Silly farmer, haven’t you read the Constitution? The president isn’t elected by popular vote! Yeah!We won!

We won! Silly farmer, haven’t you read the Constitution? You need a majority of electoral votes!

o Jackson received the most votes so he was happy. o Henry Clay dropped out, supported JQ Adams and Adams won. o Now Jackson was angry. Just smart politics my friend. Now that is a Corrupt Bargain!

Mudslinging – making wild charges and lies about a candidate. Mudslinging – making wild charges and lies about a candidate. Jackson won… by a lot.Jackson won… by a lot. You moneylovin’ dirtbag!! Your wife is a two- timer!! Oh snap indeed! Oh snap!

JEFFERSONIAN DEMOCRACY People should be governed as little possible JACKSONIAN DEMOCRACY Whatever governing needed to be done, it should be done by the common man. Whatever governing needed to be done, it should be done by the common man. “Government by the majority of people; instead of a government by the upper class “Government by the majority of people; instead of a government by the upper class New Democracy Why the change? I may have disagreed with Jefferson on many things but at least he was right about that. There’s like a lot of us and like a little of you. Shouldn’t government serve us?

Population shifts west (more individuality, Jackson from there) Property ownership/education not needed to vote Great increase in amount of voters (especially from lower class.)

Indian Removal Keeping the Union Together Vetoing the Bank of the U.S. These all seem awful! These all seem great!

Jackson thought the National Bank made the rich richer and cheated farmers He vetoed the Bank’s Charter He withdrew the government’s money essentially killing the bank. Ignorant fool is going to ruin our economy. Haha! Take that Richie Rich.

South Carolina threatened to secede from the U.S. over an unfair tariff. They nullified the tariff. (Declared it unconstitutional and refused to enforce it) Jackson got Congress to lower the tariff and give him the power to collect it by force* if necessary. South Carolina decided to stay (BUT Jackson’s VP Calhoun resigned.) *Force = Sounds like a king to me. King Andrew the 1 st ! This is complicated. I’ll just agree with Jackson.

Jackson made many controversial decisions in his quest to empower the common man. Was he a hero or did he go too far? Not just a king but a dirty, peasant king! He’s the greatest man who ever lived.
