Though they give us a major advantage in the arms race, should we continue to use nuclear weapons or disarm them?

A nuclear weapon is an explosive device that obtains its powerful force from two nuclear reactions, either fission or fusion.

Fission bombs are the more common of nuclear weapons. They split into two different reactions having twice the effect.

Fusion bombs are a combination of two thermonuclear reactions in which several lighter atoms join to form heavier atoms to produce a huge blast. –Radiation high

The after effect sickness derived from nuclear energy. Some examples are: –Loss of hair –Seizures –Bloody vomiting –Excessive diarrhea –Birth defects –Nausea –Internal burning of the skin

On August 2, 1939, just before the beginning of World War II, Albert Einstein had an idea that could give the United States an advantage in the arms race. Einstein and several other scientists wrote President Roosevelt of efforts to purify the chemical uranium-235, which could be used to build an atomic bomb. Shortly after that the United States government began researching more and more on atomic bombs.

In the history of warfare, only two nuclear weapons have been detonated and they were both used near the end of WWII. The attack on Pearl Harbor during WWII was a surprise military strike by the Japanese navy against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on the morning of December 7, 1941 destroying three fifths of U.S. battleships and killing 1200 soldiers.

Some years later the U.S. counterattacked on the cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan, killing an estimated 120,000 people (mostly civilians). –People that didn’t die from the immediate bomb later died from radiation.

Nuclear Weapons make humans and endangered species. There are about 26,000 nukes in the world today. –Enough to destroy civilization many times over and destroy most life on earth.

There are currently nine countries with nuclear weapons. US Russia UK France China Israel India Pakistan North Korea

The average nuclear weapon in the US arsenal is approximately eight times more powerful than the nuclear bomb that destroyed Hiroshima, immediately killing some 90,000 people. –High casualty rate. –On going wars between countries that have them. –Radiation lingering in the air still effects people years down the road.
