Correlation Investigation

Reading vs Spelling Hypotheses: The fastest readers are better at spelling Slower readers spell better

Spelling Test You will hear 20 words read out loud. Write the spellings for each in your books.

Reading Test You have one minute to read the provided text (Alice in Wonderland). Do not try to read faster than your ‘normal’ pace Count up the words you got to after one minute has passed (Every 100 words is marked in red) to help you

Correlation Investigation

Stride vs Height Hypotheses: Taller people have longer strides Taller people are terrible at striding.

How are you going to do this? You need to be able to measure: – Height – Stride Are there any rules everyone needs to follow? Would it be best if only a few people collected the data?

Correlation Investigation

Arms vs Shoes Hypotheses: There is a link between forearm length and foot size No way is there any connection between my forearm and my foot

How are you going to do this? You need to be able to measure: – forearms – feet Are there any rules everyone needs to follow? Would it be best if only a few people collected the data?

Correlation Investigation

Height vs Shoe Size Hypotheses: There is a link between a person’s height and their shoe size Giants can have teeny feet too!

How are you going to do this? You need to be able to measure: – heights – feet Are there any rules everyone needs to follow? Would it be best if only a few people collected the data?

Correlation Investigation

Jumping vs Jumping Hypotheses: There is a link between a person’s vertical jump height and their horizontal jump length I can jump far, but I can’t jump up!

How are you going to do this? You need to be able to measure: – Vertical standing jumps – Horizontal broad jump lengths Are there any rules everyone needs to follow? Would it be best if only a few people collected the data?

Correlation Investigation

Lungs vs Star Jumps Hypotheses: People who can hold their breath for a long time can do more exercise I can hold my breath, but I can’t run more than like, 5 feet.

How are you going to do this? You need to be able to measure: – Time for holding breath – Number of star jumps in a minute Are there any rules everyone needs to follow? Would it be best if only a few people collected the data?

Correlation Investigation

Birth Month vs Luck Hypotheses: Luck is related to the month you were born in Luck schmuck. It’s totally random

How are you going to do this? You need to be able to measure: – The month people were born – Luck (!) Are there any rules everyone needs to follow? Would it be best if only a few people collected the data?

Measuring Luck We’ll measure luck like this: Everyone needs to predict what number is going to appear next (between 2 and 8). If you get it right, you get 1 luck point. If you get a second one right, you get 2 luck points etc So if you get 2 numbers right, you get 3 points altogether, if you get 3 numbers right, you get 6 luck points altogether. We’ll do it 10 times.

Predict it now…
