ATF2Quad Fab & Measurement Status Cherrill Spencer 01/31/06 1 Brief Status Report on Fabrication & Measurement of ATF2 Quads By Cherrill Spencer, SLAC, for ILC-BDS weekly meeting on 31 st January 2006
ATF2Quad Fab & Measurement Status Cherrill Spencer 01/31/06 2 First ATF2 quadrupole, fully assembled
ATF2Quad Fab & Measurement Status Cherrill Spencer 01/31/06 3 First ATF2 quad on measuring stand at IHEP. Rotating coil set-up.
ATF2Quad Fab & Measurement Status Cherrill Spencer 01/31/06 4 What’s happened: st Jan ‘06 ~17 January - first magnet assembled Jan Custom rotating coil system initially tested January first magnet measured at IHEP by Hall probe – moved through magnet January. Sugahara & Masuzawa–sans of KEK visited IHEP to help develop standardization procedures, check out measuring system in general and verify that rotating coil is working properly. Conclusion of KEK visitors- more checks to be made of set-up’s thermal stability and rotating coil data. Will happen after Chinese New Year holiday (IHEP closed 28Jan- 5Feb) If first quad looks OK production assembly will be given go-ahead. Spencer will visit IHEP February to monitor fabrication and measurements
ATF2Quad Fab & Measurement Status Cherrill Spencer 01/31/06 5 ATF2 quad Gradient versus current measured with Hall Probe
ATF2Quad Fab & Measurement Status Cherrill Spencer 01/31/06 6 Summary of prelim measurement results on first ATF2 quad at IHEP Magnet measured up to 150 amps. Effective length longer than predicted by usual “rule of thumb” and it decreases by 0.47% from 50 to 135 amps. Average effective length over all currents = cm Quad is 99.27% efficient at 50 amps Quad is 97.32% efficient at 100 amps Quad is 85.43% efficient at 135 amps With actual effective length and max K1= 2.5 need gradient of 54.76T/m, which is achieved with amps Half the quads will need PS that go to ~150 amps
